The Adventure Begins - Sept. 29, 2012

WELCOME to our site as we travel the Great Loop. We will be beginning the Loop from where we purchased our Loop boat, a 2004 Mainship 40, in Ft. Myers, Florida, in September, 2012.  We will head south around the Keys this winter, up the  Florida ICW during the spring of 2013 and then head north on the ICW to explore the eastern half of the United States, portions of Canada and south through Chicago traveling inland waterways, rivers, canals to Mobile, Alabama, crossing the Gulf  and crossing our wake in Ft. Myers, Florida. We plan to spend about two years making this 6,500 mile journey on our boat, Seventh Sun III—hauling out for the Winter of 2013 somewhere after the Chesapeake Bay and before Chicago and starting the second leg in the Spring of 2014.  Any schedule should be treated more like a hopeful guideline because every leg is subject to the weather, human schedules and how much we like where the boat sits at the moment.

Through our writings, photos, maps and links, we hope to share our experiences as we explore the sites and the histories of the many areas we will stop and visit,  meet new Looper friends, and locals along the way.  Hopefully, some family and friends will be able to hop on and off during portions of this trip.
